Ralph Morris Jr.

Ralph Morris Jr. was re-elected to his third term as UAW Local 163 President in August of 2020.  Prior to that, he was elected President of UAW Local 163 in October of 2013 and served as the Local’s Vice President from 2011 to 2014. 

Ralph holds an Associates Degree from Henry Ford Community College, a BA in Political Science from U-M Dearborn, and Masters Degree in Labor and Employment Relations from Wayne State University.

Ralph joined UAW Local 163 in 1991 when he hired in as a Material Handler at Detroit Diesel Corporation.   Ralph became very active in the union movement soon after hiring in at Detroit Diesel by helping out on Organizing Drives as a volunteer organizer at UAW Region 1A.  Ralph successfully completed his electrical apprenticeship at Detroit Diesel in 2004 and holds a UAW Journeyman’s card in that trade.  Ralph was elected Alternate Committeeperson of District #4 at Detroit Diesel in 2005 & 2008.  He was elected delegate to the 33rd and 34th UAW Constitutional Conventions. 

Under the leadership of Ralph Morris Jr., UAW Local 163 has seen a dramatic increase in Membership.  A long term financial strategy and vision for the Local has been implemented.  Under this financial plan the mortgage to the Union Hall was paid off at the end of 2018 and the front and back parking lot was repaved.  Ralph has implemented many communication improvements to the Local:  Newsletter, Mobile Texting, Mass Emails, and a Local website.   The reestablished Local 163 Newsletter has been recognized for its General Excellence and has won multiple awards at the UAW LUCA Conference.   

Ralph and his wife, Jennifer, were married in 2007.  Ralph, also, volunteers at the Redford Theatre.
